There are many different types and makes of control assemblies available today. The most common is the single lever 'Morse' type which controls both the throttle and gear shift with one lever. In my experience, unless you feel it's important to be 'macho', this is the best type of control to use. It comes in mechanical and electronic flavors.
Follow the manufacturers instructions supplied when installing the control head. Install the engine and transmission ends per the diagrams below.
